The summer following my sister’s honeymoon, she and her husband I’d like to tag along on their tour of the Greek islands. This kind of trip was nothing new to me, except my parents were not about, and now I was concealing a secret. Far more beautiful than any landscape, however, was what I found on our third stop, on the isle of Eos. We’d just unpacked our bags and the sun was setting, and I asked my sister if it was OK to run down to the sand. A ten minute stroll from our hotel, under an orange and red skies, I could see the elegant individual lines, the naked bodies lying on the sand.
The casual, shameless way these folks went about the strand thrilled and inspired me, and I desired to be among them, to cast off my clothing then and there, but what would my sister say? How could I even begin to broach the subject? To be honest, I don’t remember what I said, just that I somehow found the courage to “come out” to her. The best part about my sister is that she is a talker. Sometimes, when we’re on the telephone, I will put the receiver down and visit the toilet , not miss anything. When it involves topic, no subject is taboo. But this was more than simply speaking. I told her how I’d needed to visit a bare beach for years, not to see girls (as one might expect) but to be naked myself, in sight of her and her husband and the entire beach going public. Her reaction? “Certainly, why not.” What I didn’t know at the time, and what caught me completely by surprise, was that her husband harbored the same interest.
The week that followed was utterly dreamlike. It was as if we had stepped through a magic portal into my dreams, where bodily shame did not exist. I took to nudity in public like a created naturist, as shameless as unicorn girl, and the experience exceeded my expectations.
Now allow me to just take a moment to discuss swimwear. Remember my feelings for ties and church shoes? It doesn’t compare to my loathing for bathing suits. I can’t imagine how stuffing a vagina into a bikini must feel, but whoever invented modern men’s swim trunks needs to be punched in the nuts. I’ve forgotten swim trunks in my car for days simply to discover they’re still wet! I avoid the sand only so I don’t have to endure wearing the damn things. This was the only downside to my island encounter. Regular seashores were ruined forever.
Every year I was decided to visit a bare beach, but there were many obstacles. Some islands cater completely to textiles and occasionally aunts and uncles went with us, but what was particularly frustrating were the shores known for naturism with no naturists! Even in Eos, I Had discover nothing but fearful tourists. It all appeared to change from month to month, since the time of year determined what nationality went on vacation. Greek and Italian tourists never go nude, but Germans, Swedes and Norwegians generally do.
As the years went by, more people became complicit in my escapades. I traveled the islands with my other sister, her sons, and my best friend (and his friends) who lived in Athens, and was naked in front of them whenever possible: on the beach, in the hotel, even in my parents’ summer house. Surprisingly, nobody seemed to mind, despite that they were too timid to attempt it themselves. Once, my nephew and I seen a remote plage on the island of Mykonos. T here was no way back but by ferry, or so we were told, and we missed the last boat. We had to hike for miles through rocky hills and bushland. For him, it was an ordeal, but for me it was an adventure, a chance to live like Dynotus, like my ancient ancestors before things like bathing suits were devised.

Naturist World – Doing something great for others and the purposes behind these voluntary actions is a issue that’s come up. It’s a topic I think, at the minimum, warrants a discussion. Humans in general are egoistic creatures, which is why the debate continues as to whether or not there’s such a thing as a “selfless good deed.”

Hours and hours of e-mailing, posting, press releases, contacting patrons (for our naked charity initiative), re view ing each and every request that we got to try and weed out the odd balls (pardon the pun) and not to mention the cash that went into putting everything together. Ask any one of the organizers (again – FKK & Ranger World folks) only how much of our hearts and souls went into creating the naked party, how many emails and texts went back and forth at virtually every hour of the day.

Vita Naked North East’s Negativity In The Fkk World
When we found out, our number one concern was to tell as many people as we possibly could. Resort reservations would have to be canceled, and individuals who were coming from far away needed to understand to make other arrangements. The coordinators, who fronted up all the cash, needed to prepare for whatever lay ahead and attempt to think of an alternate plan.
Calls were made to everyone we could consider to try and locate an alternate site. After talking with whoever owns the site we were given his phone number and took it from there.
A venue being procured, we started scrambling. Luckily we’ve got a great group of people who volunteered – some came early to help set up, some offered their vehicles, some drove hours and brought a variety of things that were desired. There was a sense of unity that had it not been the case, the celebration would have never happened.
To show our gratitude to the Vita Nuda people who helped locate a venue, we posted a public thank you, discontinued the bash at some point to announce how appreciative we were for their help and even enabled them to hang up their Vita nuda flag – even though it was by no means their occasion. Basically they helped find a venue by making some phone calls and passing on the info to us.
After the party, we posted a site thanking all the patrons for their generosity and to all those who took an active part over the past few weeks. What happened next came as a little surprise – even to me!

This brings up an intriguing question should we have listed every single individual that helped us put the event together? Folks helped set up, folks helped clean up, some helped with the venue, others helped with getting security and the list goes on and on (kind of like the credits at the end of a film). Paradise. Complete Paradise. Those were the only words when thinking back on my day at Rock Lodge that were satisfactory to describe my experience and all in a brief visit to this enchanting sanctuary.
“Packaging light?” my husband joked with me as I put my sarong, towel and hat in my canvas beach bag. Conspicuously missing a swimsuit, I grinned. I ‘d wanted to see Rock Lodge all summer – a nudist paradise – amazing lake, picturesque hiking trails, wildlife and nature in wealth and the alternative to be certainly clothing free. I knew exactly what he spoke of. I envied this young woman who had been exposed to paradise from the impressionable young age of eleven, while I grew up struggling with body image issues from pre teen to adolescence. I stared at this young woman and at all the girls at Rock Lodge and was overwhelmed to tears with gratitude that a place like this existed on the planet. I recalled immediately, like moving through a memory box of images, the snapshots of shame I’d felt in my body from a young age – my rejection of wearing shorts in middle school because of my perceived ugly legs, walking out of a room back after making love with a college honey so he couldn’t see my buttocks and thighs that I believed were unsightly, feeling the self-judgment and loathing of my body the first time I was naked in public as the young French boy I was dating stripped and encouraged me to join him and his friends in the skyclad hot tub as I strove to hide myself and my shame under the darkening night.
While these recollected moments felt like early memories and my shame long since transformed, now, seeing a awesome possibility being taught to future generations of girls and young women left me rolling through the memory box seeing just how far we have come.
During my paradise day trip to Rock Lodge, after swimming across the lake twice, I pulled myself up onto a dock at the center of the lake and sprawled flat on my belly, my buttocks and thighs entirely exposed to the sun, the elements, the community, with not a twinge of shame in my body. There was no idea of hiding, concealing, judging what my body should and should not look like. Here, in click of nature was the quiet euphoria of oneness. I hiked. That is a loaded question in part because the key words in the question can carry such a wide range of meaning and connotation for different individuals. For many, even the choice of naturist vs naturist carries with it almost a religious fervor and like religion there are as many variations of belief but also many commonalities.
There is also been lots of discussion around using the word “recreation.” For some, sex is recreational so how does that affect the term “bare diversion”? Apart from the vagaries of the English language I see two parts to your own question. One is, “What does nudism/naturism mean to me?” and the other is analogous to asking “If I see a church/sFKKgogue/temple does that make me an adherent to that specific religion?”.
In my own opinion it is perfectly acceptable to have a number of opinions about what nudism/naturism means, and it is perfectly acceptable to just see without buying into whatever philosophy has been encouraged provided that you aren’t a hazard to the community.
I think the question we really need to grapple with is what defines a menace to the community aside from bad behaviour in one’s presence and perhaps that even changes with the local community. We can probably all agree a pedophile signifies a genuine threat, but other features can differ significantly in terms of “danger variable” depending on the common view s of the community (as I understand FKK is painfully aware of).
These dilemmas are not unique to the naturist community, but are universal societal dilemmas which brings us full circle to the notion that naturists are just like everybody else, except they often prefer to be without clothes. Does that answer your question? Probably not, but hopefully it’s food for thought.

Facebook Breastfeeding Pictures – After nearly over a decade of struggling back and forth with Facebook regarding what’s appropriate and what’s offensive, Facebook finally opens up to the public stating that its policy enables moms to post their breastfeeding photos only of babies actively nursing.
